Juliet, a 38 year old mother hailing from Tongolo, stands as a testament to the impact that SustainMe’ s sewing workshop has had on the women of her community.
With three children to take care of, Juliet says that the sewing workshops from SustainMe will not only impact her but also her family. She started out from scratch, sewing her very first dress from a skirt.
This newfound skill has become a source of confidence for her. Besides being a personal pursuit, she also recognizes the potential economic benefits she will receive from sewing. She envisions a future where her sewing skills would become an income-generating opportunity whether through tailoring school uniforms, saving money on mending her children’s clothes, or making her own.
Juliet finds joy in the skill and intends to further develop it, with the goal of both equipping herself and generating income from it. Juliet is not the only one to embrace sewing. For the love of learning, the women in her community decided to repurpose their own clothes to learn the craft.
Juliet acknowledges how the women uplift one another through shared teachings, guiding each other through measurements, pedaling, and tailoring. Juliet’s story is one of many that show the impact that SustainMe has had on the women of Tongolo.
