Our Action
In the past month, SustainMe has continued to make meaningful strides in empowering vulnerable women and their families to break free from the poverty cycle. Each success story reaffirms our commitment to empowering women and their families to thrive despite the odds stacked against them.
Food Security for Families
SustainMe provided seeds to families to promote food security and work towards achieving the Social Development Goal 2 ZERO HUNGER. Our Family and Social Strengthening program not only addresses hunger but also lays the foundation for families to have better nutrition
Skills, a Game Change for Women
Through our Mini Women’s Centre, the women and school drop-out girls continue to learn and acquire vital skills for job creation and employment. Considering that most of the struggling women are illiterate, sewing, hair dressing and weaving skills are restoring and building hopes towards the fight poverty in their lives.
Small businesses for women
Most small businesses do not get the opportunity to celebrate their first birthday that is why it is important for SustainMe to effectively support and empower women to start, manage and sustain their businesses thereby creating economic opportunities and reducing poverty. Small businesses are supported through mentorship, entrepreneurship training and access to financial opportunities including seed grants and micro startup capital.
Education for needy children
Facilitating the education for children from underprivileged families is an act of empowerment that has far reaching implications for their future as well as their families. SustainMe continues to provide school fees and scholastic materials for the children to enable families escape the cycle of poverty.

“A Life Changing Experience with SustainMe”
My experience with SustainMe was extremely empowering; being able to work directly with a community of women and form connections and relationships with them was incredibly rewarding. The successful completion of our project including a village savings bank and financial literacy training, which will help women and their small businesses for years to come, was an experience I will never forget, and I am so grateful to SustainMe for providing me with such an incredible experience making a difference in the lives of a community.
Kevina is a determined and hardworking 68 year old widow selling roasted soya and ground nuts but like many other women in her community, she struggled to make ends meet. Despite her life’s challenges, she held onto the glimmer of hope dreaming of a good future for herself and that of her family.
Kevina became involved with SustainMe through the Twekembe Village Bank aimed at providing financial services and support for women like Kevina. The village bank operates on a simple yet powerful principle, each member contributes a small amount of money weekly into a collective fund which is later loaned out to the women.
Kevina saw this as an opportunity to change her circumstances and decided to join the village bank while committing herself to save diligently. Each week, she set aside a portion of her earnings, no matter how meager and deposited it into the village bank and as time went by, her savings grew steadily. She was diligent in paying back any loans she took from the village bank, always ensuring that she honored her financial commitments. Alongside her savings, Kevina attended mentorship workshops provided by the organization, where she learnt valuable skills in budgeting, entrepreneurship and investment.
‘’ At the end of last year’s saving cycle, I accumulated enough funds to realize one of my dreams: buying a water container and a pig. The water container provides my family with a stable supply of clean water, while the pig serves as an additional source of income through breeding and selling piglets. With these investments, my financial stability will improve even further. The water container saves me her time and money previously spent on fetching water from distant sources. The pig is a lucrative venture that will generate a steady income for my family.’’ Says a cheerful Kevina.
Through determination, hard work, and your support towards SustainMe’s village bank program, Kevina transformed her life from one of hardship to one filled with hope and opportunity. Encouraged by Kevina’s success story, more women have joined the village bank group and the cycle of empowerment continues.
