At SustainMe, we believe that opportunity changes everything—and the Esuubi Her Skills Centre is a powerful reflection of that belief in action.
Established to equip women, young mothers, and school dropout girls with practical sewing skills, the Centre was created to open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and financial independence. It is more than just a training space—it is a place of hope, resilience, and transformation.
When we first launched the Centre, we began with just two sewing machines serving over 65 women and girls. While the demand for skills was overwhelming, the limited resources meant long waiting times. In some cases, women had to wait up to a week just to access a sewing machine. Despite this challenge, their determination never wavered. They showed up, remained committed, and held onto the vision of building better futures for themselves and their families.
Today, we are proud to celebrate a significant milestone. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, Empathy Action, the Centre received a donation of eight additional sewing machines. This has increased our capacity to a total of ten machines—dramatically improving access and allowing more women to train consistently and effectively.
With the Centre now better equipped, a new chapter begins. The women are not only gaining skills but are also starting to produce high-quality products under the brand name “Tunga”—a word that means “to sew” in the local language. This marks an exciting step toward sustainability, as trainees transition from learning to earning.
The impact is already visible. Women are building confidence, gaining independence, and taking control of their economic futures. What started as a small initiative is now growing into a vibrant hub of creativity, opportunity, and empowerment.
We remain deeply grateful to all our partners and supporters who continue to make this journey possible. Together, we are not just teaching skills—we are transforming lives.
