Mentorship session

Sustain Micro Enterprise’s new mentorship programme has been established to give women additional support in understanding and developing their businesses.  It builds on the existing business training programme by moving theory into practice.  Women are able to look at the issues in their own individual businesses and discuss solutions to the unique issues they come across.

Hadijah has been facing challenges in her second-hand clothes business.  Although December is usually a peak month for the traditional new Christmas outfit, this year people only wanted new clothes and her stock was not moving.  She had also used capital in her second-hand clothes business to subsidies the family butchery.  Now her family is struggling to find money to eat.  By helping Hadijah to keep records and analyse data, mentoring will enable her to see where she could have made better decisions and to plan ahead for both good times and bad.

One-to-one mentoring sessions are now taking place weekly with eleven women, focusing on record keeping and data analysis.  Sustain Micro Enterprise hopes to build this programme utilizing the skillset of its staff and future volunteers to enable more women to be mentored across a wide variety of business issues.  In the future it is hoped to develop a distance-based mentor programme with volunteers from all over the world.
