Hasifah is a single mother of eight. The family depended on subsistence farming and struggled to provide the children with even one meal a day. None of her children attended school because Hasifah couldn’t afford the school fees or the scholastic.
In 2016 she underwent business skills training with Sustain Micro Enterprise before accessing a small loan of £34. With this money, she set up a small fishmonger business on the banks of Lake Victoria. One year on, she is thankful that her business is successful enough to send two of her children to school. In the future she hopes that her growing business will enable all her children to have the education she herself did not have.
